A global oil services group hopes to expand its presence in the UK after announcing plans to reposition one of its branches in the north east of England. Opulentus UKAker Solutions hopes to create 100 new posts over the next three years as its drilling technologies business moves into new premises next to the company's existing office at the Preston Farm industrial estate in Stockton-on-Tees. The company is one of world's top suppliers of deepwater drilling bundles for rigs and drillships and its new engineering office will house product engineers to work on a range of topside drilling equipment. Akers Solutions will move into the new buildings by the end of October and aims to employ 30 new staff by the end of the year, with the long-term ambition of filling the office capacity of 100. Thor Arne Haverstad, of Aker Solutions, said: “We are well aware of the excellent oil and gas engineering competence in the north east of England. We are experiencing significant growth, so we want to tap into this market to further support both our UK and international customers.” The company has been in the region since 1986 and currently employs about 100 workers. Mr Haverstad added: “The north east region has a proud industrial heritage with a huge engineering competence base. Additionally, it contains several excellent educational institutions that produce exactly the type of competence we need, for example structural and mechanical engineers. “We also know that many engineers commute from the north east to other parts of the UK. Hopefully our plans will make some of them consider Stockton-on-Tees as an even more attractive option.” Source: http://www.ukti.gov.uk/investintheuk/investintheukhome/item/375000.html
